What Is Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation?

Dr. Gray is an expert in both surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation, offering his patients the best of each category. As opposed to using surgical methods such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, etc., a non-surgical facial rejuvenation employs non-surgical procedures to reach similar results. Patients frequently choose non-surgical facial rejuvenation options because of the notable differences in downtime, convenience, cost, scarring, and other factors.

What Issues Can Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Correct?

People will generally age in the same way. As we age, we’ll likely see:

  • Sun damage from sun exposure
  • Sunspots
  • Wrinkled skin
  • Moderate skin laxity (loose skin) on the face and neck
  • Volume loss from bone deterioration in the cheek, jaw, and face
  • Prominent facial lines including crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, and more

What Procedures Can I Choose From?

Non-Surgical facial rejuvenation will address these concerns by using the following methods.

Skincare in San Francisco

We offer various skincare options to help you take care of your skin daily. One of our favorites is DefenAge®, a groundbreaking skincare solution that uses defensins, which can reprogram dormant cells in our body to promote newer-, healthier- and truly youthful-looking new skin. Without the risk of inflammation, irritation, or other concerns, DefenAge address loss of firmness, contour definition, fine lines and facial wrinkles, enlarged pores, dark spots and pigmentation, uneven skin tone, surface imperfections, dark eye circles, dullness, glow and radiance, skin clarity, loss of moisture, dryness, rough texture, skin softness, and excessive oiliness, and more. Dr. Gray will help you determine if this skincare option or another will help you revitalize your skin.

Neuromodulators (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeauveau) in San Francisco

The term “neuromodulators” refers to a type of injectable product that blocks signals to underlying facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles and lines on the upper face. Neuromodulators have shown to be very effective in treating the glabella frown lines, forehead lines, and can even provide a lifting effect to the brow, platysma bands in the neck, upper lip (lip flip), and other areas when injected precisely.

By temporarily inhibiting these muscles, the skin also relaxes, meaning the appearance of lines and wrinkles significantly decreases. Neuromodulators can also prevent future wrinkles and lines from forming. Dr. Gray can help his Bay Area patients decide if Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport®, or Jeuveau® will be best for their unique needs. Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeuveau typically last four months but can last longer or shorter depending on the patient and the area treated.

Dermal Fillers in San Francisco

Dermal fillers are injectable products that replenish lost volume to different facial areas. Dr. Gray offers a variety of dermal fillers specifically composed to address certain parts of the face. Our fillers can effectively revitalize the following areas:

Mid Facial Bony Areas

For the lateral brow, upper cheeks, lower tear trough, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, jaw angling, and the transition area between jaw and chin, Dr. Gray recommends Radiesse®. Radiesse is composed of the same chemical formula as bone, so it looks the most natural when replenishing areas that have diminished bone. Radiesse in these areas will not look artificial, lumpy, or overfilled, but entirely natural, especially when injected by an expert with Dr. Gray’s training and experience. Dr. Gray’s techniques can also provide a lifting effect that reduces lines and wrinkles in other areas when injected in certain spots. Radiesse usually lasts up to a year in these regions. Dr. Gray can also use Voluma® in this area. He will discuss the benefits of each product during your consultation.

Lips

Many different products are available to fill the lips. Dr. Gray commonly uses Juvederm® Ultra Plus and Restylane® Kysse, which both last a little over a year, for people looking for a full result. Newer fillers from Teoxane® (RHA 2, RHA 3, and RHA 4) can also augment the lips and other areas.

Under eye Hollows

With aging, the eye area (orbit) becomes bigger as bone begins to recess backward. This can manifest in dark undereye circles and hollows. While fillers can work well here, it has to be a particular type to avoid appearing too lumpy or puffy. Dr. Gray typically uses Belotero® for this area, as it looks entirely natural, does not look puffy, and lasts up to a year in this location.

Nose

For some patients who would like to augment sections of their nose without undergoing a surgical rhinoplasty, Dr. Gray can use fillers to provide a non-surgical rhinoplasty. Fillers can also help those who have seen trauma or other conditions that may not be helped by surgical rhinoplasty.

FaceTite Skin Tightening in San Francisco

Patients interested in correcting sagging skin at the jawline and neck often reach their goals with FaceTite®, a method that uses bipolar radiofrequency to contract the skin. The FaceTite device allows patients to enjoy tighter skin and a more youthful and contoured face with tiny incisions, no scarring, and minimal downtime.

Performed either under local anesthesia with relaxation medication or general anesthesia, the FaceTite procedure involves making three small punctures on the face: one beneath the chin and two near the ears. A small probe that looks like a pencil lead will then be inserted, and another probe that looks like a coin on a stick will sit above the skin. RF energy will emit between the FaceTite probes as it’s moved along areas of the face and neck, tightening lax skin in different sections of the face. FaceTite can also be combined with other procedures, like liposuction of the neck, to see the most dramatic enhancement.

Patients can return home on the same day of their Bay Area FaceTite skin tightening procedure. They will need to wear a special compression garment for four days, after which they will only need to wear it at night. Patients can usually get up and begin moving around before the one-week mark. Like other procedures, swelling will be present for several months, but it is typically subtle and not severe. Dr. Gray’s patients see an initial 15% skin tightening after FaceTite, though this number jumps up to about 40% after four months to a year and a quarter.

Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing in San Francisco

With the most versatile and advanced CO2 laser features, the Cynosure® SmartSkin™ provides totally customizable CO2 skin renewal technology, resulting in more even tone, smoother texture, tighter skin, and markedly reduced wrinkles. Fractional laser resurfacing in San Francisco harnesses precise laser technology to reduce wrinkles, age spots, uneven skin texture, acne scars, crepey skin, ketoses from sun damage, and many other skin imperfections.

Laser resurfacing is an outpatient procedure. Dr. Gray will numb the area before beginning treatment and may also use a mild anesthesia if the treatment is extensive. Laser resurfacing typically takes between 30 minutes and two hours, depending on the technique used and the size of the area treated.

Dr. Gray finds that most patients will recover in about a week after their treatment. Results should become visible as the body naturally regenerates collagen over the next several months. Common symptoms include redness, swelling, itching, and other similar concerns. Dr. Gray will provide you with aftercare instructions to help you heal quickly and smoothly. On average, patients can expect laser skin resurfacing results to last anywhere from 3-5 years from having the procedure done.

Laser resurfacing is great for many patients but may not be beneficial to patients of specific skin tones. Darker-skinned patients do have the risk of hyperpigmentation. Dr. Gray will carefully test each patient’s skin before beginning any fractional laser procedure to ensure their safety. Facial Thread Lifting in San Francisco

Dr. Gray also offers thread lifting, an option that provides a non-surgical “lifting” and volumizing effect. The Silhouette Instalift is a type of thread lift that uses dissolvable threads to provide patients with an immediate lift to facial skin, diminishing the appearance of nasolabial folds, jowls, and sagging.

Dr. Gray inserts these threads with no scarring, minimal downtime, and results that last around 18 months. Patients often choose this option as an alternative to Botox, fillers, or other comparable surgical procedures. Dr. Gray can help you determine if this option is the best option to address your concerns.
