Important Considerations in Eyelid Rejuvenation

Posted in Eyelid Rejuvenation

Eyelid surgery is quickly becoming a beloved cosmetic procedure for patients within a wide age range. From reducing undereye bags to correcting sagging skin and wrinkles, this versatile treatment can fix a wide range of issues. It’s capable of providing you with a refreshed and youthful look without obvious signs of surgery. You can enhance your natural appearance by restoring a youthful, firmer look to the skin around your eyes.

Here, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Leonard Gray will share crucial factors to consider when discussing eyelid surgery with his patients at Bay Area Plastic Surgery.

Do Your Research

If you are considering any kind of cosmetic surgery, you don’t want to rush into a decision. Find an esteemed, board-certified surgeon in your area with years of accumulated knowledge in facial plastic surgery. If you choose an inexperienced plastic surgeon, you could end up with severe complications or unsatisfactory results. Undergoing a separate surgery for revisions with another surgeon can be expensive and time-consuming, so ensure your surgeon has the appropriate qualifications before scheduling an appointment.

Understand the Procedure

By fully understanding the procedure you are interested in, you can save yourself a lot of anxiety and prepare yourself for all outcomes. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes the excess fat and skin from around the eyelids to help achieve a more youthful appearance.

When performing an eyelid surgery, Dr. Gray uses either a scalpel or a laser to place incisions precisely and symmetrically into each eyelid crease to help make the resulting scarring challenging to detect. Dr. Gray always uses magnification telescopes and calipers to ensure precision around the delicate eye area.

For a lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Gray prefers to use a filler such as Belotero to fill the deep depressions under the lower lid and restore the original contour underneath the eyes. Dr. Gray prefers Belotero over fat repositioning because it is more precise, predictable, and requires significantly less downtime to recover.

Consider the Recovery Time

It’s always wise to prepare for the recovery time associated with surgery. To get ready, ensure you have plenty of help for the first week or two after your surgery. Immediately after completing your procedure, Dr. Gray may apply a lubricating ointment and cold compress may be applied, and in some cases, he’ll loosely cover your eyes with gauze. We’ll send you home with specific instructions that will include how to properly care for your eyes and medications to apply or take orally to assist in the healing process and prevent infection.

Initial healing may include some swelling, bruising, irritation, or dry eyes, but you can control all these side effects with medication, cold compresses, and recommended ointments.
